Hail to the NerdAlfar....
.. may they watch over this SysAdmin's push of Microsoft Office 2007 to 300 or so desktop over the coming week, starting in about 3 minutes. First five batches are queued up and ready for the batch file to run, sending a massive bunch of installation files over the network, to be installed desktop by desktop using an automated process that works pretty well in testing.

We'll see how well it works in real life momentarily.

Crossing fingers nauthiz-style for luck, pouring out a dollop of Mt. Dew to the museum vaettir (which I'll have to clean up before I leave - don't want to attract any bugs...)

Fortunately, I've known about several different ways I'm fucked since July, when this project was supposed to get underway... and I've been able to mitigate most of them. ;)

But yeah, flipping the switch on 5-10 machines in a test environment is vastly different from doing 124 tonight, with slightly smaller batches to follow the rest of the week. (bites nails).

So far, so good though - my segregated batches of "I don't think these names are good" already finished (and there was, in fact, one good name in each batch which worked flawlessly), so I've pulled 2 smaller batches out of the main batch and started those up. Once I'm confident that they're well under way, I'm heading for home. I can check in remotely and fire off the final update batch file from there (Yay Citrix!)

Yea verily, Citrix be the one true way to admin and work with the abomination known as Winderz.

Volume license with no activation? Then the root ghods be smiling upon thee. Otherwise, fuckdom ensues ;-)

Micro$oft's been good to the museum - OS and Office licenses donated, lots of other goodies gratis, etc. And it keeps me employed, after all - there's always another Patch Tuesday.
