Disting/Plow Charming
It's not entirely surprising, given my own decidedly non-agricultural background, but one of the things that has been difficult for me in Heathenry has been really understanding the seasonal cycle of things. I do computer work for a living, and exist in a world of fluorescent lighting in windowless rooms for at least 8 hours a day, then come home to LCD screens, curtains closed to keep the HOA from spying on my home life, with a xeriscaped back yard to provide as little maintenance as possible so that I can focus on reading and playing on my computer at home...

But this spring, I'm finally really feeling it. There's a definite shift happening, and even though I'm still feeling sluggish and torpid, I'm not happy about it, and feel like I should be doing something to get the sludge cleared out of the pipes on a more regular basis. We're actually noticing plant growth (which we've been mostly ignoring for the last couple of years), and feeling an urge to do something about that, as well...

So tonight, as part of our regular weekly religious observations, we'll be digging out our pruning shears and putting them in front of the Disir altar as a reminder.

And this weekend, we'll be doing bicycle maintenance as well...

Wrong pic. Sorry. I forget what numbers go with what pic. WAS supposed to be a pic of Frigga. Don't know how to change it.

Hurray for you!! Gardening quickly becomes a passion, I warn you.

Locked in the deep freeze for a good while yet as we are in Iowa, we gardeners nonetheless feel that stirring in our blood. 'Tis the season of seed and nursery catalogues, and we put our heads together planning new borders and comparing notes on what worked well (or didn't) for us last year.

Spring rocks. :)

Strangely, My body has usually been a good indicator of season shift. I find that in the winter and fall, I start wanting hearty meals like potato soup, chili, turkey, more potatoes, etc. Come spring and summer, I want light and refreshing/cleansing things like salads, vinaigrettes, more sour/bitter type tastes. I also get antsy and want outside more in the spring, regardless of weather. Indoor hobbies start beoming boring and I get antsy.

That's funny...we are the same way. Do you live in a northern climate?

Mimirstein was going to do it last weekend, but one of our members was in a car accident so we're moving it to this weekend. Best of luck.

Thanks. It actually went very well. It was the first ritual we've had since the kindred was formed as a sister kindred to suthristein back at Yule. I really LIKE plowfinding. I think it's the farmer wananbe in me.

Yes, spring is comin quick. Got the green porn out (aka seed catalogues) planning the garden, trying to figure out how to order seeds on line with out a credit card (I _will_ find a way), and generally feeling not so dreary.
